Tsomgo Lake - The Lake is considered extremely sacred by the local people. This placid Lake remains frozen during the winter months up to mid May. At an altitude of 3780 mts and 40 kms from Gangtok is this 1 Km long and 15 mts deep Lake is a must for tourist and nature lover.
Baba Harbajan Singh Memorial – Built in the memory of Harbajan Singh, a sepoy in the 23rd Punjab Regiment, the temple lies between the Nathula pass and Jelep la pass. The monument then acquired the status of a pilgrimage.
Nathula pass - Is the third mountain pass on the Indo-China border connecting the Indian state of Sikkim with Yadong County on the southern border of Tibet the other two pass are Shipkila in Himachal Pradesh and Lipulekh (or Lipulech) in Uttaranchal. The pass is 56 km from Gangtok and 430 km from the Tibetan capital Lhasa. At an altitude of 14450 ft, is one of the highest motor able roads and is richly covered by many varieties of alpine flora and fauna. It is most tranquil place to visit. The pass is not navigable in winters as it receives heavy snowfall. Temperatures in Nathula regularly dip below −25 °C i.e. (−13 °F) in winters. At present domestic tourist are given permit to visit Nathula 4 days a week (Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday) and only 30 vehicles are allowed each day.
Tour to Yumthang, Guru Dongmar Lake, Yumthang, Chungthang, Lachen, and Lachung etc also originates preferably from Gangtok. The road leading to these from Gangtok is scenic, with the vegetation graduating from sub-tropical forests to temperate to wet and dry alpine to cold tundra desert devoid of vegetation.
